The ancient gurukul system, as described across the Upanishads, required students to formally seek their guru's acceptance before beginning Vedic study, often undergoing a period of service and humility first, as Lord Krishna and Balarama themselves did at Sandipani Muni's ashram before being taught the deepest scriptural knowledge. Vedarambha formally marks this transition from general schooling into serious, disciplined scriptural study under a guru's direct guidance.
