Significance & Origin
Satyanarayan Katha is the worship of Lord Vishnu in his Satyanarayan form, performed to seek prosperity, remove hardships, and give thanks for the fulfillment of wishes.
Origin Story
As narrated in the Skanda Purana, sage Narad once asked Lord Vishnu how ordinary humans could overcome sorrow and hardship in the world. Vishnu revealed the Satyanarayan Vrat, describing how a poor Brahmin, and later a woodcutter, a merchant named Sadhu, and a king all found relief from suffering and attained prosperity by faithfully performing this vrat and katha. Since then, it is performed by devotees across all walks of life seeking similar blessings.
