Origin Story
The Devi Mahatmyam describes how the fierce demons Chanda and Munda, generals of Shumbha and Nishumbha, once challenged Goddess Parvati's beauty and attempted to capture her. In response, from Parvati's furrowed brow emerged the terrifying Goddess Chandika, who swiftly defeated and slayed both demons, earning the name Chamunda. Because she manifested specifically to combat overwhelming threats, the nine-fold worship of Chandi in this anushthan is considered exceptionally powerful for overcoming severe obstacles, enemies, and dangers that ordinary remedies cannot resolve.
